Ian Shears, Men's Club Captain
Ian was born in London, England and served for nine years as a Police Officer in The Metropolitan Police in central London, two years as a detective in the anti-terrorist squad. After meeting and marrying his New Zealand born wife Julie, he emigrated to New Zealand in 1976 and served as an Auckland Customs Officer for nine years before embarking on a twenty year career in the Auckland property industry. Looking for a lifestyle change about eleven years ago, they moved to Hawkes Bay after his wife was appointed Deputy Principal at Iona College and they thoroughly enjoy living in this beautiful part of the country. They have two daughters and recently have enjoyed the birth of their first grandchild. He has wide experience with serving on various committees including as Vice President at the Auckland YMCA Marathon Club and a similar role at the Havelock North Club. He is looking forward to contributing to the running of a great Golf Club.
Liz Wood, Women's Club Captain
Liz has been a member of the Hastings Golf Club for 20 years after being introduced to the game by her husband Richard. She enjoys the social side of golf but is also quietly competitive when playing. Liz would like to help all members and visitors enjoy a positive experience during their time at the Golf Club.

Gary has been playing and been involved with the game of golf for 38 years. He has a degree in Hotel Management and is also a British PGA qualified golf professional with a PGA Qualification, and a degree in golf from the University of Birmingham. Gary turned pro in 2003 and was the head teaching professional at the Royal Hague Golf & Country Club, The Netherlands for 6 years. Gary represented The Netherlands in various European team championships as well as individually. Gary was also the chairman of his club's youth/junior committee for 3 years. "I look forward to being an active part of this management team, and hope that I can bring some new and interesting ideas to the Hastings Golf Club."
Murray McNae, Management Committee
Murray and his wife Sue joined the club in 2012 after they moved from Wellington to live in Havelock North. Murray has a background in IT, and set up his own company in 1993. While he still has a shareholding in the company, he says he is "semi-retired". He started playing golf as a teenager and loves the camaraderie of the members and the quality and park-like setting of this lovely golf course.
Lynne Roberts, Management Committee
I have been a member of the club for 18 years and been involved with rep golf for many of those years. I work in the horticultural/agricultural industry, currently as a commercial manager and have also been involved in research. I have previously been secretary of the Havelock North Tennis Club and captained the Crossman Cup Pennants Team for several years. I believe the club is in good heart at the moment. Some of the issues I would like to help with are ensuring there is a good balance of course access for members, and activities such as tournaments, that generate income for the club and increasing the number of junior golfers. I would like to see an increase in player numbers at twilight golf. I am interested in the members views on what is being done successfully and what is not and would like to work at making improvements where necessary.
Andrew Atkinson, Management Committee
Andrew has returned to Hawkes Bay, where he grew up, with his wife Hannah and two young boys after 19 years living in Auckland, Dunedin and New York City. Andrew loves the game of golf and is very enthusiastic about contributing to the management of the Hastings Golf Club with the goal of preserving its fantastic course and culture. Off the course Andrew has joined Jarden in Havelock North as a Wealth Adviser and previously held roles in Institutional Banking.
